Proposed Medical Marijuana Caregiver Licensing Board (MMCLB) The Work Group, impaneled by the Children, Families, Health and Human Services Interim Committee, spent a great deal of time discussing how to best regulate and control medical marijuana in Montana. Lewis Smith, Powell County Attorney submitted a local government perspective on June 28th supporting the need for a dedicated licensing board for caregivers in Montana. With the nuances of this new industry, regulation and oversight are essential. Specifically at this meeting the sub-committee will look at law enforcement issues, regulating Caregivers and Distributing and Tracking of Medical Marijuana The work group consisted of Caregivers, Law Enforcement officials, City & County officials, and representatives of DPHHS and the Departments of Education and Agriculture. The goal of the work group was to discuss problems and issues affecting each group and attempt to come to reasonable solutions. The MMGA has taken exception to the CAP on Caregivers in Bozeman which will put additional strain on Patients in Bozeman by putting a number of Caregivers potentially out of business. The CAP as stated in the current ordinance is likely have a significant negative impact for legitimate Caregivers attempting to operate transparent and within the law and could likely encourage an increase in black market activities. The MMGA has recommended to the Bozeman City Commission to modify the Caregiver CAP to specifically limit store front locations.
